“Weather Report”
by Lilian Moore
Pinging rain
stinging sleet tonight.
Frost at dawn
bright sun in the morning.
Ice-bearing trees,
a glass orchard,
blinking sunwinking.
A noonwind will pass,
harvesting the brittle crop
crashing clinking.

Rain
by Sigbjorn Obstfelder
(Translated from the Norwegian by Sarah J. Hails)
“One is one, and two is two-
we sing in huddles,
we hop in puddles.
Plip, plop,
we drip on roof top,
trip, trop,
the rain will not stop.
Rain, rain, rain, rain,
bucketing rain,
chucketing rain,
rain, rain, rain, rain,
wonderfully raw,
wet to the core!
One is one, and two is two-
we sing in huddles,
we hop in puddles.
Plip, plop,
we drip on roof top,
trip, trop,
the rain will not stop.”

“The Open Door”
~ Elizabeth Coatsworth
Out of the dark
to the sill of the door
lay the snow in a long
unruffled floor,
and the lamplight fell
narrow and thin
a carpet unrolled
for the cat to walk in.
Slowly, smoothly,
black as the night,
with paws unseen
(white upon white)
like a queen who walks
down a corridor
the black cat paced
that cold smooth floor,
and left behind her,
bead upon bead,
the track of small feet
like dark fern seed.
