Oregon Battle of the Books, 2013-2014 (9th-12th grade)

July 15th, 2013 · No Comments · Author! Author!, Book Geek, Currently reading, Education, Events & Readings, Libraries, Student Work, Titles to Look For

We’ve started reading next year’s OBOB selections at our house.

Here are the titles (a dozen total) for grades 9 through 12 (ORCA is short for Oregon Reader’s Choice Award):

“Grave Mercy,” by Robin LaFevers, 2012

“Rot & Ruin,” by Jonathan Maberry, 2010

“Daughter of Smoke & Bone,” by Laini Taylor, 2011 (2014 ORCA)

“Copper Sun,” by Sharon M. Draper, 2006 (A group of my middle school students chose this for a group read a few years back and enjoyed it.)

“The Pregnancy Project,” by Gaby Rodriguez, 2012

“Winterdance,” by Gary Paulsen, 1995

“The Fault in Our Stars,” by John Green, 2012 (One of the best modern YA authors around — my daughter discovered him first.)

“Dairy Queen,” by Catherine Murdock, 2006 (Read this a few years back — very good read)

“Dirty Little Secrets,” by Cynthia Jaynes Omololu, 2010

“Everybody Sees the Ants,” by A. S. King, 2011 (2014 ORCA)

“Au Revoir, Crazy European Chick,” by Joe Schreiber, 2011 (2014 ORCA)

“Every Day,” by David Levithan, 2012 (Just checked out the audiobook copy of this from library today)

So. Here is my secret evil plan, as previously stated… I will add blurbs about these as we read them, what say? (The elementary and middle school lists are already posted.) Yes? Yes! I don’t know where I’ll be working next year, so this is giving me something to do while that falls into place. 🙂

Happy reading, happy OBOB and ORCA, too! Bon appetit.
